People often go to spiritual leaders for guidance when they are at a crossroads, are feeling an internal conflict, or have gone through a crucible experience or crisis. (And sometimes leaders find themselves in a similar situation needing help for the next faithful step!). This course provides a process that you can use to guide others who are trying to figure out what to do or to help yourself if you are trying to make a difficult decision or transition.

Drawing from her own experience with difficult decisions and in conversation with spiritual leaders, historical figures, and everyday folks, Rev. Dr. Angela Gorrell maps out a process for working through the most challenging aspects of complex choices, listening to God and others, naming emerging possibilities, and choosing a wise way forward that you can return to time and time again as you and the people you care for face new challenges.

Participants completing this course will be given the following:

  1. Insight into what makes difficult decisions difficult and why this matters for life & ministry.
  2. Specific ways to work through the most significant aspects of difficult decisions and transitions (e.g., powerlessness & worry, difficult feelings, the past & the future, contending convictions, risking relationships & judgment etc.).
  3. Inspiritional stories that will provide hope and courage.
  4. Concrete exercises and activities to attend to God’s presence and the Spirit’s leading as well as others and one’s life in order to figure out what to do.
