15: Ecumenical Dialogues with Jamie Hawkey
The Rev’d Dr. Jamie Hawkey is Canon Theologian of Westminster Abbey and Chair of the Westminster Abbey Institute. He is a Chaplain to HM The King, having first been appointed a Chaplain to HM Queen Elizabeth II in 2017. Canon Hawkey is also a Bye-Fellow of Clare College, Cambridge, and a Visiting Professor in Theology at King’s College, London. Jamie’s teaching and research focuses on ecclesiology and ecumenical theology. Before he was Canon Theologian at Westminster Abbey, Hawkey was Dean of Clare College, Cambridge.
In this episode, Hawkey shares what it’s like to work and pray at Westminster Abbey. He describes the state of ecumenical dialogues the Anglican Communion is a part of and explains how they happen and who is involved. We talk about the ecumenical monastery San Masseo in Assisi. Hawkey suggests that Chrisitans can engage the wider world through Christianity’s spiritual side and through the arts. Finally, we talk about how essential prayer is to the Christian life.
