14: Compassionate Leadership with Vicentia Kgabe

The Rt. Rev’d Dr. Vicentia Kgabe was born in Soweto, undertook theological training at the College of the Transfiguration, and earned a PhD in Practical Theology from the University of Pretoria, focused on alcohol abuse among clergy.

Bishop Vinny gives a talk at Marquand Chapel

After becoming ordained, she served in parishes around the Diocese of Johannesburg. She then became the first woman and the youngest ever Rector and Principal of the College of the Transfiguration. In 2021, Kgabe was elected Bishop of Lesotho, becoming the third woman bishop in Southern Africa and the sixth on the African continent. In 2023, Kgabe was invited by Archbishop Justin Welby to preach at the opening service of the Lambeth conference. She is a dedicated theological educator, committed pastor and teacher, and a pioneer of women’s leadership and ministry in the Anglican Communion.

Bishop Vinny joins us to talk about leading with compassion rather than power. She reminds us of how God will get us to where we’re meant to be and of how essential it is to be rooted in prayer (in the pew or at the gym).
