Ministry in all modern settings requires bold leadership and innovation. Yet, all too often, we are held back by shame, fear of vulnerability, or worry about failure. This course will give participants tools to break free from those blocks using a model called “The Daring Way,™”  a psycho-educational course based on the research of Dr. Brené Brown Ph.D., researcher and author of the #1 New York Times Bestseller, Daring Greatly: How the Courage to Be Vulnerable Transforms the Way We Live, Love, Parent, and Lead. In our Daring Way Workshops we will examine the thoughts, emotions, and behaviors that are holding us back in the innovation process. We will also identify the new choices and practices that will move us toward more authentic and wholehearted living. The primary focus is on developing shame resilience skills and developing daily practices that transform the way we lead, create, and connect. In addition to working with Rev. Dr. Raining, a certified Daring Way facilitator, participants will also receive:

  • exclusive access to videos created by Brené Brown
  • experiential exercises to reflect on the principles and apply them to your life
  • connection with others who are also committed to innovative ministry
  • individual and communal times of reflection and learning with facilitated discussion

This is a 4-week series that will explore each of the below practices:

Vulnerability – The birthplace of love, connection, courage and creativity. We will dispel the myth that vulnerability is weakness, and discover how to take small steps toward this powerful practice.

Empathy & Values – Values are more than guide posts; they define and empower us as innovative leaders. Honoring our values is the key to living every day from a place of empathy and integrity.

Blocks and Shields- The human brain is hardwired for connection. That means that we will tend to avoid activities that might bring us criticism or shame—a major hindrance for the innovator. Thankfully, we can be aware of the blocks and shields that we use to avoid the discomfort of being brave.

Rising Strong™- If you show up often enough and bravely enough, you are guaranteed to face failures. In this session, we will learn how to keep rising from these moments so they will not hold us back but help fuel our next brave innovation. Participants will begin to utilize a 3-phase process that will demonstrate the following:

  • How to bounce back from failure of all kinds: interpersonal, professional, and/or social
  • How to live a courage-centered life by embracing emotional and creative setbacks
  • How to confront what success means to you, re-frame perceived failures as educational steps to enable growth, and gain resilience to rise up stronger following setbacks
