Jonathan Wilson-Hartgrove joins us from the Yale Center for Public Theology and Public Policy. He describes the making of white, Christian nationalism and helps us see a different path forward, following the teachings of Jesus. He walks us through the reality of the New Right in the 1970s as a way for us to understand our position headed into the 2024 election.

About Jonathan Wilson-Hartgrove:

Jonathan Wilson-Hartgrove is a writer, preacher, and community builder. He is from North Carolina and is a graduate of Eastern University and Duke Divinity School. Jonathan is an Associate Minister at St. Johns Missionary Baptist Church in North Carolina. He is also Assistant Director for Partnerships and Fellowships at the Yale Center for Public Theology and Public Policy.

Jonathan is a leader in the Red Letter Christian movement and the Poor People’s Campaign: A National Call for Moral Revival.

Jonathan and his wife Leah founded the Rutba House in 2003, where they still live. It is “a place of hospitality where the formerly homeless share community with the formerly housed.” 

Jonathan is a co-complier of the celebrated Common Prayer: A Liturgy for Ordinary Radicals.

He is the author of several books on Christian spirituality, including

• The New Monasticism

He is also co-author, with Reverend Dr. William Barber II, of The Third Reconstruction: Moral Mondays, Fusion Politics, and the Rise of a New Justice Movement.
