Courses & Workshops Open for Registration

August 18, 2023

This year, BDS is launching a series of courses and workshops. These dynamic, expansive, and practical courses and workshops are designed to help clergy and lay leaders deepen their spiritual lives and enhance their ministry. All leaders from all backgrounds and denominations are warmly welcome to join us.

Our first course, “Innovation on the Daring Way: A Pathway for Brave Ministry,” taught by the Rev’d Dr. Hillary Raining, takes place online this October. Classes will take place 10 am to noon EST on October 9, 16, 23, and 30. Registration is open on Eventbrite.

The Course: Ministry in all modern settings requires bold leadership and innovation. Yet, all too often, we are held back by shame, fear of vulnerability, or worry about failure. This course will give participants tools to break free from those blocks using a model called “The Daring Way,™”  a psycho-educational course based on the research of Dr. Brené Brown, researcher and author of the #1 New York Times Bestseller, Daring Greatly: How the Courage to Be Vulnerable Transforms the Way We Live, Love, Parent, and Lead. In our Daring Way Workshops we will examine the thoughts, emotions, and behaviors that are holding us back in the innovation process. We will also identify the new choices and practices that will move us toward more authentic and wholehearted living. The primary focus is on developing shame resilience skills and developing daily practices that transform the way we lead, create, and connect.

The Rev’d Dr. Hillary Raining is the rector of St. Christopher’s Episcopal Church in Gladwyne, Pennsylvania and founder of The Hive, an online spirituality and wellness community. In addition to parish ministry, she is a published writer in both church and academic fields. She has also served on numerous Diocesan and Episcopal Church Conventions, Committees, and Boards. Currently, Raining serves The General Theological Seminary as the Director of the Center for Christian Spirituality and Affiliated Professor of Ascetic & Liturgical Theology. Additionally, Hillary is a spiritual director, yoga & meditation instructor, bee keeper, and forest therapist. Hillary teaches regularly at www.thehiveapiary.com and you are welcome to become a member!
