You’re Invited!

October 9, 2020

One of the few silver linings to pandemic restrictions is the easy online access to special events, and Convocation 2020, which will extend over a week in mid-October, gives the Berkeley community the chance to join in the festivities via social media. Simply go to the Yale Divinity School Convocation Schedule on the YDS website for all information and registration links.

The keynote speaker for Yale Divinity School’s Convocation will be our own Presiding Bishop, The Rt. Rev. Michael B. Curry. On Thursday, October 15 at 5:30 p.m., Curry will speak on “Love is the Way: Holding on to Hope in Troubling Times,” which is the title of his new book.

On Tuesday, October 20, 4:00-6:00 p.m., Berkeley will host its Convocation Evensong and Cheney Lecture, which will also include the conferral of honorary degrees. Cheney Lecturer Dr. Jenny Te Paa-Daniel, noted Maori theologian and former dean of Te Rau Kahikatea-College of St. John the Evangelist in Auckland, New Zealand, will speak on “Redeeming Anglican Imperialism … . We can, we must, we will.”

As part of the Evensong service, Berkeley will confer honorary doctorates on Dr. Te Paa-Daniel, the Rt. Rev. Poulson Reed ’97, Bishop of the Diocese of Oklahoma, and the Rev. Dr. Samuel T. Lloyd III, former rector of Trinity Church Boston and dean of the National Cathedral in Washington, D.C.

Berkeley will also recognize the Class of 1970 in honor of their 50th anniversary as Berkeley graduates.
