Jessie Gutsgell Wins Essay Competition

September 29, 2014

Middler Jessie Gutgsell has won this year’s Anglican Theological Review’s essay competition for her paper The Gift of Tears: Weeping in the Religious Imagination of Western Medieval Christianity.  The Anglican Theological Review is the unofficial journal of the seminaries of the Episcopal Church in the United States and the Anglican Church of Canada.   Jessie’s winning essay will appear in an upcoming issue of the journal.

Each year the ATR invites students to submit papers on a topic of their choice.  A panel of judges reads all the entries and chooses a winner. Students must be enrolled in a master’s-level program at one of eighteen institutions in the U.S. and Canada preparing students for ministry in the Episcopal Church.

Jessie is a professional harpist and member of the Board of Trustees of Berkeley Divinity School.  She earned her Bachelor’s Degree of Music from Indiana University and is a postulant in the Diocese of Indianapolis.
