Dean Britton Called to Christ Church

March 31, 2014

Dear Friends,

I have accepted a call to serve as the Interim Rector of Christ Church, New Haven, beginning the Fifth Sunday of Lent (April 6). In order to finish out the semester at YDS with a minimum disruption for students, I will also continue to fulfill the essential duties of Dean of Berkeley Divinity School (including graduation) through the end of my term on June 30.

Christ Church is not only an important parish within New Haven, but has historically exerted a significant influence in the wider church, often in partnership with Berkeley Divinity School. As a progressively minded congregation in the Anglo-Catholic tradition, it has drawn many people into the life in Christ, while maintaining a consistent focus on outreach ministry in its urban setting. With Christ Church’s powerful tradition of “ancient worship and modern faith,” I look forward to serving its congregation as they prepare for the rich future that lies open before them.

I look forward to the final Community Eucharist of the term on April 23, when we can bid our formal farewells to one another after my eleven years of deeply rewarding service with the other faculty and staff to the students of this extraordinary divinity school.

Faithfully yours,

Joseph Britton
