Berkeley Announces 2017 Fall Convocation

Berkeley Divinity School will hold its Convocation and celebration of the 50th Reunion of the Class of 1967, on October 17, 2017.  Alumni, friends and special guests will gather in New Haven for worship, reflection, and festivity, including with the annual meeting of the Graduate Society and the 2017 Pitt Lecture, given this year by the Rt. Rev. Victoria Matthews ‘79, Bishop of Christchurch, New Zealand.  Bishop Matthews will deliver her lecture Mission versus Heritage: earthquake, wind and fire disturb identity, imagination and memory in 21st century Aotearoa/New Zealand, at 1:30 p.m. in Marquand Chapel. The lecture is free and open the public.

Berkeley will award to Bishop Matthews and to the Rt. Rev. Griselda Delgado del Carpio, Bishop of the Episcopal Church of Cuba, the degree of Doctor of Divinity, honoris causa.  The honorary Degrees will be presented during Evensong, which will take place at 5:00 p.m. in Marquand Chapel.  A reception will follow.

Please plan to join alums and friends for lunch, beginning at Noon, in the Yale Divinity School Common Room.  Later that day, the Graduate Society will hold its annual meeting beginning at 3:15 p.m., in Niebuhr Hall. Louis Wetherbee Pitt (1893–1959) was a distinguished alumnus and trustee of Berkeley Divinity School and a wise and loving pastor. The Louis Wetherbee Pitt Memorial Fund, which supports the Pitt Lecture, was established by his family to provide for lectures by distinguished preachers and world Christians.
