September 15, 2014

The Very Rev. Andrew B. McGowan will be installed as the fourteenth dean and president of Berkeley Divinity School during Berkeley’s annual convocation on Tuesday, October 21.  Dean McGowan will preach at the Convocation Evensong in Marquand Chapel at 5 o’clock.  At the service Berkeley will confer honorary degrees on three distinguished recipients: the Right Rev. Victor Atta-Baffoe, BDS 1993, Bishop of Cape Coast Ghana; Ann B. Dewey; and The Right Rev. R. William Franklin, who served as Dean of Berkeley from 1998 to 2001 and is now bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of Western New York.

Convocation day will begin at 1:30 when Bishop Atta-Baffoe will deliver the Francis Cheney lecture on the topic of “Living in Communion with Anglicanism.”  At 3 o’clock the Graduate Society will hold its annual meeting.  Dean McGowan along with Yale Divinity School Gregory Sterling will both attend and lead the day’s discussion. Finally the Convocation Evensong will take place in Marquand Chapel at 5 o’clock.

Work is underway to establish an endowed chair in honor of Bishop Franklin.  For further information or to contribute contact Pamela Wesley-Gomez, Director of Development and External Church Affairs.
