Theological Education Offering

Surprisingly, the Episcopal Church does not as a national institution contribute anything toward the support of the serminaries that train its clergy and leadership.

The General Convention of the Episcopal Church, therefore, has repeatedly resolved that parishes contribute 1% of their operating income to theological education. This “Theological Education Offering” (most recently reaffirmed by the 2006 Convention) is the core support for each of the eleven seminaries.

Each year Berkeley strives to increase its annual giving and relies heavily on parish giving in order to do so. We are glad to visit parishes to help them raise awareness of the seminaries’ mission—either to preach, or lead educational classes, or help to develop and implement stewardship plans.
