Spiritual Wayfinding

Free to all YDS students, this is a relationship with a trained mentor who will meet with you once a month to listen with you to what is going on spiritually in your life. No grading, no external expectations—just openhearted listening to you and to God at work/play in your life, and deep respect for your personal way of making meaning of your story. Also, sometimes, laughter! There’s room for both grief and delight.

Varied in their theological traditions, ethnicities and sexual/gender expressions, our mentors are trained to meet with you where you stand and to honor that as sacred ground.

“In this beautiful context where I am surrounded by brilliant professors and colleagues, with so many profound insights and practices we share on faith, it is more important than ever that I take time to discern my own relationship and dialogue with God. As beautiful as all of these voices are, there are times when they conflict with one another, or do not resonate with where God is calling me. I often find myself in need of returning to the wellspring, to attend to my inner sanctuary, to discern the voice of the One who I can always trust to guide me. This is why maintaining a personal spiritual practice and engaging in Spiritual wayfinding is so important. It creates critical space and support which helps me remember who I am, and who I am called to be.”

“I virtually connected to Rev Cathy Watson through the Annand program in September 2023. In my first year, Cathy and I met once a week. We prayed together, read Scripture together, and discussed seminary challenges together. I opened up to her slowly, and we really connected over my passion for dance. Cathy encouraged me to pursue dance seriously and spiritually. In my second year, we met once a month, and Cathy helped me discern opportunities with prayerful wisdom. Most recently, Cathy invited me to her home in North Carolina to attend the theology and arts conference at Duke Divinity. This was the first time I met Cathy in person, and it was as though I was meeting my spiritual mother, whom I had known my whole life. I am blessed to have Cathy in my life, and I would not have met her without the help of the Annand program.”
